My solo dining in Istanbul started a few years ago when drained out of energy by the exorbitant workload of a consultant I was coming for long weekends to re-charge and savor Istanbul and its food. Those were my rendezvous with the city itself when I could have it all for myself. Istanbul reciprocated my intentions and proved a very friendly place for a solo female traveler.
Sun, good food, brief walks in Sultanahmet that supply your annual portion of male attention, numerous shopkeepers ready to please, hamam pampering, cooking classes and concerts you can attend without being intimidated by your couple-lessness. And on top of this - plentiful opportunities to meet other solo travelers when you feel like joining forces to attack a good eatery.

Located between the Black and Marmara seas Istanbul has historically been big on fish and a whole culture has developed around fish dining. From the first sight of its busy streets Istanbul presents itself as a kebab capital of the world steering away vegetarian foodies. This impression is deceiving. Do not despair neither sheer number of kebab shops made even more noticeable thanks to the stentorian cries of the vendors. Perfect Food Weekend in Istanbul
The decision to go to Istanbul for a food weekend came very naturally – after weeks of hard work I needed a bit of happiness and a lot of good food. The guy who picked me up at the airport asked only two questions: “First time here?” and “What is your favorite food in Istanbul?” His was manti, small dumplings, and I took it as a clear sign for arriving to the right place.
